Year 7 Visit to Sheffield Islamic Centre

To complement their learning about the religion of Islam in class, twenty year 7 students were offered the opportunity to visit the Sheffield Islamic Centre to find out more about the religion and meet those who follow Islam to gain first hand knowledge and experience of their practices and beliefs.

Both sets of students behaved impeccably and thoroughly enjoyed quizzing the Imam about the religion of Islam. We were all shocked and stunned by the sheer size of the mosque and how many people attend regularly for prayers and other community related events. We visited two of the main prayer halls which accommodate over a thousand people, experienced the ritual of Wudu, examined the various Holy Books and took part in a prayer ritual.

Despite the heat and the long journey to Sheffield, all students said they would highly recommend a visit to the mosque. We were made to feel very, very welcome and our understanding of this fascinating and often misunderstood religion was greatly enhanced by the experience.
