Outreach Centre
Homework Club
The problems that were being experienced with the I.T. facilities at St Mary's centre have been resolved and the homework club will re-open there on Monday January 16th.
Outreach Centre
When a new community centre was built in the centre of a local estate less than a mile from the school, it seemed a natural step to use this as an Outreach Centre providing homework and general learning support for our pupils. At the moment there are homework sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:30.
Help is provided at these sessions by Mrs Poole (Maths Higher Level Teaching Assistant), Mrs Hobman (Science H.L.T.A.) and Mrs Oliver (English Mentor).
To support the help with homework and classwork, learners have access to laptop computers and a printer and are able to use the Internet for research purposes. The centre maintains an extensive library of school text books for all subjects as well as many of the software packages used in school.
Extended School
Mrs Gillian, our Pupil Welfare Officer, soon realised that this use could be extended to serve wider needs and established an Extended School Centre there, operating three evenings each week. Everything that was available as support in school could be offered at the centre in a more informal and private setting.
At the moment learners and parents/carers can access the following services: -
Monday - Holistic Therapy/Counselling and Parent Support 4 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Tuesday - Sexual Health/Stop Smoking Clinic 4 p.m. - 5 p.m.
Wednesday - Anger Management 4 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Parent Support 4 p.m. - 6 p.m.
All evening sessions are by appointment only and any informal enquires can be directed to Mrs Gillian at 01977 781555
The address of the centre is St Mary's Community Centre, The Circle, Chequerfield, Pontefract, WF8 2AY
Home visits are also available by request.
The whole provision is a huge success and was commended by Ofsted in our recent inspection.
