De Lacy School' Fire Fighters Passing Out Parade
As part of the CHOICE programme children from three schools have taken part in a Fire Fighting Course at Castleford Fire Station. Today was the passing out parade for the De Lacy group. Children demonstrated skills and team work for parents and Station Managers before receiving their certificates of achievement. 23 parents in all attended the parade along with Fire Service staff from various areas of West Yorkshire. Mrs Gillian, Carleton High School's Pupil Welfare Manager and CHOICE organiser, said, "I am very proud of what has been achieved through this course which has been delivered by very passionate and committed staff. I would like to give special thanks to Ian Stead and Martin Hoole for making the whole experience one never to be forgotten." |
CHOICE (Children Have Options, Imagination, Challenge, & Experience) is a new programme developed by our Pupil Welfare Manager, Mrs Gillian. It is aimed at primary aged children and has a main focus on anti-social behaviour. It will consist of a thirty week programme delivered by the statutory services on actions and consequences and at the moment three schools, De-Lacy Primary, Cobblers Lane Primary and the Rookeries will be taking part with a further four schools being involved in the spring of 2012.
With the help of Wakefield College, children enrolled on the course will be able to access taster sessions in various vocational areas including General Construction, Motor Vehicle Mechanics, Plumbing and Hair and Beauty. The College will also create a record of achievement for each child and at the end of the thirty week period will hold a mini graduation ceremony. The children involved will be the first ever Wakefield College Cadets.
Included in the programme are a six week Fire Fighting Course and an accredited Boxing course.
The programme was launched on 9th November at Wakefield College’s skillsXchange where the first group will attend and be presented with sweatshirts by the College Director for Learner Development.
