Inclusion
To have young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) between the ages of 16 and 18 is an enormous waste of their potential and their contribution to society. It is also linked to a number of other poor outcomes, including low levels of attainment and teenage conception. At the end of 2009 government figures put almost 10% of this age group as NEET.
Carleton's policy of inclusion aims to give our learners every possible opportunity to move into higher education, employment or training when they leave the school. To support this Mrs Gillian, our Pupil Welfare Officer, has this year been running a transition programme that will hopefully provide our learners with the necessary life skills to move on successfully from high school.
The table below shows the aims and objectives of the NEETS Transition Project together with the programme that has been followed in 2010.
All the learners involved have gained the accredited certificate in wider Key Skills and attained a certificate in Food Hygeine which in itself makes each person more employable.
If anyone would like the full package that was produced for the learners please contact Mrs Gillian at school
