Geography
Pontefract Townscape Heritage InitiativeOn Wednesday 14th March Pontefract Townscape Heritage Initiative visited Carleton Community High School to work with 26 Year 7 learners and a class of Year 5 learners from the Rookeries. This is part of Wakefield Council that has received National Lottery funding to regenerate local towns. The learners put together photos of historic and present day Pontefract, constructed model buildings and placed them on maps of Pontefract and looked at what life was like in historic Pontefract. The Year 5 and 7 learners worked together to count and divide pounds, shiliings and pence and found out how much things cost to buy in the past. An excellent day was had by all and the learners formed new friendships as well as learning about their local town.
